CSC designed the wayfinding signs along the Fairmount Greenway and collected input throughout the design process from the Fairmount Greenway Task Force. Selecting the silhouettes to show a variety of greenway activities and users, including Black and Brown people’s silhouettes, was an important component in the signage’s design. As a result, 12 different silhouettes were mixed and matched to create unique designs for each and every sign.

In 2021, Dorchester residents and CSC installed temporary wayfinding signs for 1.5 miles stretching from Four Corners to Morton Street in Mattapan. These segment of the Fairmount Greenway are part of the City of Boston’s Slow Zones, which utilize traffic calming treatments to make it safer for residents to walk, bike and use the street in ways other than for using a vehicle. We look forward to installing more signs to mark the full 9-mile route.
