Franklin Street Pavement Mural

Allston, Massachusetts

Client: City of Boston’s New Urban Mechanics

Year: 2017

Project Team

  • Neighborways Design

  • Franklin Street residents

  • City of Boston (Approval and permitting)

In 2017, a neighborhood in Allston received a grant from the City of Boston Neighborhood Innovation Challenge. Civic Space Collaborative worked with Neighborways Design and residents in Allston on the project, identifying ways to slow traffic on Franklin Street, where to locate a pavement mural, and develop a design. Through a series of community meetings, residents were asked for mural ideas and a local artist developed the final concept.

We worked with residents to complete the permitting process with the City of Boston, plan for the pavement mural installation, and help paint the mural.
