CSC serves as the project manager for the Friends of the Mary Ellen Welch Greenway, who are working to extend the Mary Ellen Welch Greenway to Winthrop, Revere, and Chelsea. The first steps for these efforts included:

  • Convening a stakeholder meeting of city and state staff, developers, advocates, and state representatives to share information about the connected but separate projects.

  • Creating a Greenway Extensions Committee consisting of representatives from the Friends, Bike Winthrop, Friends of Belle Isle Marsh, and Air, INC.

Mary Ellen Welch Greenway – Winthrop Greenway Feasibility Study

In 2020, the Friends and Greenway Extensions Committee released an RFP to hire a consultant team to develop a feasibility study for the MEWG extension to Winthrop. Kittleson and Weston & Sampson were hired complete the 6-month feasibility planning study. CSC led the community engagement that engaged over 1000 residents in the feasibility study process, including survey and meeting outreach to East Boston and Winthrop residents.
